On 25 February, Giacomo Alessandri presented VGA’s wave energy activities at the 2022 Blue Italian Growth (BIG) event, including VGA’s involvement in the IMPACT project.
BIG is a technology cluster of Italian companies working in the marine sector. The event this year took place virtually on 24–25 February 2022.
In addition to VGA’s participation in the H2020 projects IMPACT and IMAGINE, Giacomo’s presentation “Laboratory testing: an intermediate step between wave tank and sea trials” discussed the role of laboratory testing in the development of ocean energy technologies. He particularly focused on power conversion, controllability, reliability and survivability as areas that could potentially be addressed with laboratory tests.
The presentation also touched on the available testing facilities in Europe, and testing techniques such as Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) and Dual Hardware-in-the-Loop (DHiL), the latter of which is the basis of the technology being developed in IMPACT.
